Harry Widmans longstanding interest in literature, mythology, and the human condition add a sense of mystery to his paintings, where abstracted forms engage in a richly chromatic push-pull between figure and ground. As Widman once noted, I am interested in the images that are not quite recognizable, expressive images that are insistent even as they exist just beyond memory.
This large work may be favorably compared to "Eternal Theme" (1998) in the collection of the Portland Art Museum.
