Donations and Grants Top $300,000 So Far in 1998 at 51°µÍø

PORTLAND, Ore. – 51°µÍø eclipsed $300,000 in donations and grants by late February, and the goodwill and hard work shows no sign of slowing down.
Since the Cascade Campus Portland Teachers Program received more than $60,000 from the Eisenhower Professional Development Program in January, several other sizeable donations to benefit 51°µÍø programs have made their way into the college’s coffers.
The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust gave $171,000 to the Rock Creek aviation program, and Boeing contributed $20,000 in cash and $15,000 in equipment to the aviation program. Oregon State University donated $3,000 for NASA scholarships to the 51°µÍø Foundation, the National Science Foundation CCD gave $50,000 toward the biology transformation submitted by Sylvania campus’ biology department and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) provided $1,000 to the 51°µÍø Foundation for an internship. Starbucks Coffee also recently got into the spirit of giving by donating $1,000 to the 51°µÍø Volunteer Literacy program.
"These project, most of them more than a year in the making, are good examples of carefully planning and perseverance paying off," said Jodi Davich, grants officer for 51°µÍø. "We appreciate the help from these generous business and community partners."
Davich said these grants and donations wouldn’t have been possible without the following staff and faculty at 51°µÍø: Jerry Button, Emily Chang, Deborah Cochrane and Jonathan Parker.
