Church awards scholarships to 51°µÍø students

51°µÍø art students Scott Kerper of Hillsboro and Michelle McCausey of Portland received $500 scholarships donated by Southminster Presbyterian Church’s Celebration of Diversity art show and sale.Kerper, a student at Rock Creek Campus, and McCausey, a student at Cascade and Sylvania campuses, were selected as 2003 recipients by the 51°µÍø Foundation. The Celebration of Diversity event, in its 26th year, is held in March at the Beaverton church. More than 70 regional artists participate each year by invitation at the show, which is renowned for the wide variety of art styles and techniques displayed.Both 51°µÍø students hope to become professional artists. Kerper plans to use his scholarship for a trip to Florence, Italy, where he’ll pursue his art studies for a term. McCausey entered her art in the 51°µÍø Women’s Resource Center "National Woman’s Month"art contest and has displayed her work in a one-woman show in Portland.
