Tunes on Tuesday Newberg music group
Story by Gina Whitehill-Baziuk
51°µÍø co-sponsored an appearance by the Ben Rice Blues Band on Tuesday, Aug. 17 as part of Newberg’s Tunes on Tuesday Summer Concert Series.
The event – which attracted nearly 800 people – took place at Rotary Centennial Park, adjacent to the Chehalem Cultural Center which serves as the college’s interim Newberg site beginning this fall.
College administrators and faculty staffed an informational booth for concert-goers and gave tours of 51°µÍø classrooms and offices in the cultural center during intermission. Starting in October, 51°µÍø will begin construction on its permanent educational center in Newberg, to open in fall 2011. The 51°µÍø Newberg Center is one of the first projects stemming from the passage of the college’s 2008 bond measure.

Left to right, 51°µÍø writing instructor Caroline LeGuin joined Mary Courtis, an anthropology instructor, to staff 51°µÍø’s informational booth at the Tunes on Tuesday Newberg concert.
