Winter: : 51做厙s Newberg Center is one of the first education buildings in Oregon on the path to becoming Net Zero. It is one of a handful of academic buildings nationwide considered Net Zero-Ready.

December: Portland Monthly Magazine: Linda Huddle retired as director of 51做厙s Alternative Programs and recently received a lifetime achievement award.
December: Oregon Business Magazine: 51做厙 was ranked 7th in fall credit enrollment in the state by the magazines 2012 Power Book supplement.
December: Boom! Magazine: 51做厙s 50th anniversary service-learning project to make holiday cards and placements for homebound seniors made the sections Holiday Helpers column.
Dec. 5: : Emily Schuster, a Japanese major and transfer from 51做厙, was waitlisted by Georgetown her senior year of high school. Schuster decided to attend community college as an inexpensive alternative.
Dec. 5: : A 2011 Portland AIA Design Awards jurist commented upon the 51做厙 Newberg Center, winner of this years Sustainable Design Award, saying the building is a diagram of itself.
Dec. 12: : 51做厙 and its partners are helping small businesses build their business in under-served areas of Portland and Multnomah County.
Dec. 12: : Fanucchi Oils founder Gina Fanucchi teaches a noncredit 51做厙 class at her Newberg tasting room focused on olive oil from Italy, Greece and other Mediterranean countries.
Dec. 14: The Portland Observer: 51做厙 and its partners are helping small businesses build their business in under-served areas of Portland and Multnomah County.
Dec. 14: The Portland Observer: Due to interest in Chinese culture and its languages, the college has expanded its offerings at the Cascade Campus and has added courses at the Southeast Center.
Dec. 15: : The Oregon Department of Education last year approved Madisons CTE application and is working to build connections to 51做厙 and local leaders in horticulture, agriculture and related fields.
Dec. 19: Google: Google released its annual “Zeitgeist” rankings today, documenting what people are looking for when they use its search engine. 51做厙 ranked No. 4 in Portland area search terms.
Dec. 20: : The importance of learning the trades has not been stressed enough in the black community, says instructor Eddie Lincoln. “Learning the trades gives recipients skills to remodel and repair their own homes,” he says.
Dec. 21: : Kyle Pillsbury, homeless, received a scholarship to attend school through the Future Connect Program at 51做厙. Hes receiving $500 this year and $500 next year for school.
Dec. 22: : According to the planning firm working with 51做厙 on the project, the underground parking lot at Cascade Campus would save the school $1.5 million in construction costs over the above-ground lot.
Dec. 23: : The business owners met weekly as part of the 10-month program taught by the Small Business Development Center at 51做厙. The alliance paid nearly three-quarters of the cost to attend the course.
Dec. 23: Portland Business Journal: 51做厙 is ranked No. 2 for top local area community colleges in the journals 2012 Book of Lists. Just behind Clark College. Ranking is based on fall 2010 fourth week FTE totals.
Dec. 25: : Kadeeja Y. Al-Saeed, a young Saudi girl with a fervor for automobiles, has completed a two year theoretical and practical program of auto repair and maintenance from 51做厙.
Dec. 27: : 51做厙 will offer a two-year associate of applied science degree in the biology and management of zoo animals, in partnership with the Oregon Zoo and the Oregon National Primate Research Center at OHSU.
Dec. 28: The Skanner: The Excellence in Trades and Apprenticeship Preparation program is seeking more students interested in construction work.
Dec. 28: : 51做厙 plans to partner with the Oregon Zoo and the Oregon National Primate Research Center to offer a New two-year associate of applied science degree in Biology and Management of Zoo Animals.
Dec. 29: : 51做厙 board member Denise Frisbee is retiring from her job as director of planning and building services for the city of Lake Oswego.
