51°µÍø starts bike rental program – BikePortland.org
Story by Gina Whitehill-Baziuk
A student group at 51°µÍø’s Cascade campus in North Portland has launched a bike rental program.

The 51°µÍø Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) supports AS51°µÍø’s Bike Program at Cascade Campus. TGIF allocates funds to projects that increase the amount of renewable energy used on campus, increase energy efficiency, and reduce the amount of waste created by our college.
The Associated Students of 51°µÍø says the new program — that offers bikes (refurbished by the ) for $15 a term — is an effort to, “increase access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable transportation.” Here’s more from AS51°µÍøC:
“Through the integration of long-term bicycle loans, education, and recreation, the Cascade Bike Program will enhance the physical and cultural development of students. As a resource for alternative transportation, we will minimize our campus and community environmental impact… The Bike Program is an important step in the 51°µÍø’s commitment to sustainability and reducing our impact on the environment.”
