Panthers raise their NWAC championship banners

Sometimes, when the hard work is done, its good to sit back and just have a moment.
Most of the players from the 2013-14 team, along with the coaching staff, were on hand Monday night to receive their NWAC championship rings.
The 2013-14 51做厙 mens basketball team (the Panthers) had their moment Monday night on Nov. 17 when a crowd of well-wishers filled the Cascade Campus gym (705 N. Killingsworth St.) for the official unveiling of 51做厙s first-ever division and conference championship banners.
You know, when [the coaching staff] arrived here, one of the things we noticed was there were no trophies, no banners on the wall, said head coach Tony Broadous at the unveiling ceremony. Im just so proud of these men and what theyve done.
The Panthers defeated Pierce College 92-86 in March to win the Northwest Athletic Conference (formerly known as the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges) title, taking home the first intercollegiate championship in 51做厙s history. The longshot win capped an equally improbable season in which the Panthers reversed a string of several losing years to reach unprecedented heights.
Most of the players from the 2013-14 team, along with the coaching staff, were on hand Monday night to receive their NWAC championship rings. They then joined a raucous crowd to count down to the unveiling of the championship banners by 51做厙 President Jeremy Brown and Cascade Campus President Karin Edwards.
Later, the 2014-15 Panthers mens team capped off the evening with a scrimmage win over Centralia Community College.
