Governor signs Future Connect bill in front of 51做厙 crowd

A legion of 51做厙 and Future Connect Scholarship Program supporters, including 51做厙 Interim President Sylvia Kelley, Board Trustee Jim Harper, Sylvania President Lisa Avery and a cast of many staff and students, convened at Oregon Gov. Kate Brown’s ceremonial office in Salem’sCapitol Building on Monday, Sept. 28. Gov. Brown ceremonially signed House Bill 3063, or known as the “Aspirations to College” bill, to wild applause from the contingent who surrounded her as she signed the required paperwork.
The law, based on 51做厙’s Future Connect model, appropriates $3 millionto the Higher Education Coordinating Commission to be expended for a grant program that distributes the fundsto community colleges, or any foundations of community colleges, to increase the number of underserved, low-income and first-generation college-bound students who enroll in community college and make progress toward degree or certificate. For the 51做厙 Foundation, that means its Future Connect Program will get a funding boost for years to come.
