Attention: Timely warning – Arson

Dear 51°µÍø Community, This Timely Warning is notification of multiple Arson incidents that occurred tonight, May 27th, 2026, at 51°µÍø Cascade Campus, at approximately 7:30 PM and is believed to present a potential ongoing safety concern. Timely Warnings are sent when certain crimes are reported on or near 51°µÍø property, in compliance with the Clery Act. Timely Warnings provide information about college safety situations, and inform college community members of safety precautions to support personal safety, and raise awareness to help prevent crime.

  • REPORTED OFFENSE: Arson
  • WHEN: 5/27/2026 at approximately 7:30 PM
  • SUSPECT: Adult white male with short, dark hair, approximately 30-40 years old, wearing dark sunglasses, navy blue t-shirt, blue/multicolored pants, black/white shoes, black backpack.
  • WHERE: 51°µÍø – Cascade Campus, 705 N Killingsworth St, Portland, OR 97217
  • DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT: Public Safety and local law enforcement responded to multiple intentionally set fires in and around the Cascade Campus area. Incidents included a fire near Minnesota Avenue west of Campus, an attempted fire near dumpsters west of the TEB building on 51°µÍø property, and a third fire at the TriMet bus shelter near N. Killingsworth Street and N. Albina Avenue. No significant injuries or property damage reported at this time.
  • OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION:
    • 51°µÍø Public Safety is actively coordinating with the Portland Police Bureau regarding this matter.
    • All relevant information has been shared with PPB, and patrols have been increased across Cascade Campus.
    • An update to this situation will be provided to the 51°µÍø community when information becomes available.

Safety tips and resources

  • If you have been assaulted or see an assault in progress, try to stay calm and go to a safe location. Call 911 and if safe to do so, Public Safety emergency at 971 722 4444 for help. Do not attempt to apprehend any suspects or perpetrators of crime. Your personal safety and the safety of others around you should be your first concern.

  • Parked at 51°µÍø? Call 971 722 4902 to ask for an escort to your vehicle while on 51°µÍø property, especially encouraged after dark.
  • Be a good witness: If you can and it’s safe to, observe as many details as possible to help investigations. Notice your perception of the assailant’s gender, race, age, height, hair color, clothing, tattoos or scars. If a vehicle is involved take note of the color, make and model and its license plate if possible.
