Adult Education is a non-credit program that prepares students for credit classes and the GED® test.
- Classes range from $37 to $158 (see costs in class schedule)
- Improve your skills in reading, writing, and math
- Some classes require purchase of a textbook
- Classes are open to students 16 and older (students under 18 need an official release from their high school)
- Students age 16-20 may qualify for Yes to College
Steps to enroll
Read the information carefully and complete the 3 steps listed below.
1. Apply to 51°µÍø
Complete the admissions form. The admissions deadline for fall term has passed. Winter term applications must be submitted by December 14.
2. Complete CASAS testing
Students interested in taking GED® classes are required to take the CASAS reading and math tests before registering for classes.

Remote testing
You’ll need a Windows computer (the test is not compatible with phone, tablet, Chromebook, or Mac). Plan 90 minutes for each: goals reading and goals math. Schedule here: .
3. Attend an Adult Education and GED® intake session
At the intake session, you will:
- Meet your Adult Ed Navigator, who will help you get started and register for classes.
- Learn about the math, reading and writing, social studies, and science prep course options.
- Learn about the GED® tests.
- Get tips about technology and online learning.
- Ask questions about the program.

4. Consider study options
Classes are held in-person and online. Your Adult Ed Navigator can help you decide which is right for you. For more about online classes, see online GED® classes. Spanish GED® classes are offered at Southeast and Willow Creek. The steps to enroll are different: see Spanish GED®.
5. Paying for Adult Ed & GED® classes
Be ready to pay for your classes at the time of registration. Class fees range from $60 to $190 per term depending on your class schedule. You may qualify for a class fee waiver. Waivers are covered at the intake session. Students must submit them each term they enroll.
Continue your education at 51°µÍø!
The 51°µÍø GED® Completer scholarship is for students who completed the GED® through 51°µÍø within the last year and are enrolled in credit classes at 51°µÍø for an upcoming term. The scholarship is in the amount of $1,500 total. See more: 51°µÍø GED® Completer scholarship.

A GED® certificate can be earned by those who have not completed high school and who are at least 16 years old. The GED® certificate is accepted as a substitute for a high school diploma by many employers, apprenticeship programs, community colleges, and universities. It is used all over the United States and Canada, although passing scores may vary from state to state.
