Frequently asked questions

The “Shortcuts” area is a great place to start on the 51�� Library homepage.

“Shortcuts” provides links to pages that will help you find databases in which to do research, schedule a research help appointment, use citation creation tools to make citations for your paper, and more.

If you want to start searching for books, videos, articles, or course reserves, you can use the main search box at the top of the page and select the tab that has the item you want to search for.

Possibly! The library keeps a collection of textbooks that instructors have placed on reserve for their classes. You can check to see if the library has it by using the course reserves search tab, and searching by course code and number, instructor, or title. You can also search course reserves from this page. If we do have your textbook on reserve, you can go pick it up at the library checkout desk and borrow it in the library, usually for 2-4 hours at a time.

Please note: The library does not sell copies of textbooks. You can learn more about buying textbooks at the 51�� Bookstore website.

Use the ��Articles�� search tab in the big search box on the homepage to search for articles from newspapers, magazines, and scholarly journals from our two largest library article databases. .
Visit our ��Articles and Databases�� tab to find and search one of over a hundred databases for articles, ebooks, videos, and data. The ��Get started�� page suggests our most general databases as a starting point for research projects.
