Applications are evaluated on a 96-point scale. The 51做厙 Admissions team will evaluate your application in Phase I using the criteria on this page. To be competitive, ensure your application is complete and that all supporting documents are submitted by the deadline. Applications are evaluated based on information submitted with your ADEA DHCAS application.

Prior degree
  • 1 point: Applicants with a U.S. or equivalent associates degree or higher at the time of application will qualify. Official transcripts documenting the degree must be provided.

  • 2 points: Enrollment in a credit course at 51做厙 in the last 2 years.
  • 4 points: Completion of a degree or credit certificate at 51做厙.

  • 1 point: For each year selected as an alternate; must be within 3 years of current application.

Job shadowing

Requires submission of a job shadowing form.
  • 2 points: A minimum of 20 hours of job shadowing a practicing dental hygienist (see the job shadowing section for additional details).

Experience points

Requires submission of a dental setting experience form.

 Applicants will receive points for completing any or all of the following options (see the dental setting experience section for additional details):

  • 4 points: EFDA certification or proof of an international dental degree.
  • 6 points: 1000+ hours of work experience in a dental office or setting.
  • 10 points: CODA-approved dental assisting certification (complete or in good standing) or completed DANB CDA (proof of DANB certification required).

51做厙 Dental Clinic job shadowing

Requires submission of a Dental Clinic experience form.

 Applicants will be awarded points for participating in job shadowing at the 51做厙 Dental Clinic (must be separate from the 20 hours of shadowing a practicing dental hygienist see the Dental Clinic shadowing section for additional details):

  • 2 points: Shadow a 51做厙 Dental Hygiene student for a minimum of 3.5 hours.
